The Bible Church of Christ is the vision of our leader, Bishop Roy Bryant Sr., D.D.
In 1956, 33-year-old Roy Bryant, Sr. had a deep and miraculous healing at the hands of the late Jack Coe at his tent revival. The experience left him profoundly moved and deeply committed to continuing on a path that was commanded by God.
After receiving his Holy Baptism, he began to preach. His preaching was irresistible to people everywhere because his vision and faith were so strong. Slowly but surely, he gathered his congregation. They would meet regularly at his home or wherever good people were willing to sacrifice their time and show their faith. The young Roy Bryant, Sr. was constantly amazed and moved by those around him who shared his faith and love of God.
After six years of preaching the word and using his gifts of healing and by listening to the Word of God in his heart, Elder Bryant was moved again by the Holy Spirit in 1961 to found The Bible Church of Christ. Its first members were himself, his dedicated wife Sissieretta and their five beautiful children.
Elder Bryant once again had a profound vision given him by God. He was commanded and directed to create a healing church of deliverance. The power of this vision was undeniable and so he set about to establish this ministry. He carried the Word of God and the faith of Jesus Christ everywhere he went.
By 1966, Pastor Bryant was ordained as a Bishop. His congregation had now grown so large that he began his search for a proper church. Through the blessings of God, Bishop Bryant was able to secure the original church building on Morris Ave. in The Bronx, NY. Now his work could go forward with greater energy and commitment—and this church would grow, continually inspired by the vision of its founder Bishop Roy Bryant, Sr., D.D.
In 1969, tragedy struck with a fire that consumed the church building. But through the dedication of all of its members and under Bishop Bryant’s inspired leadership, we were able to rebuild.
From the ashes of Morris Avenue, Bishop Roy Bryant, Sr. D.D. gradually expanded, spreading the word of God and its healing power to all parts of the northeast, then to places like Africa, India and Haiti. His vision knows no limits and he continues to bring his deep faith and healing to thousands of souls.
Today, The Bible Church of Christ is an international ministry with American Missions and International Missions throughout the world.
